Bass Hunter 1st trip 0f 2010

#1 Post by Gary Morton »

[]Vessel[/b]:Bass Hunter

Crew:Sean, myself

Duration:8am - 4.30

Tide:last of the Ebb up to high water

Weather:Grand

Bait:Squid,mac

Rigs:long flowing

Results:Congers, Spur dog, huss, Dogs

Launched into a fairly choppy sea along with the highland dove, the mistress, we all headed to roughly the same mark and anchored up.
Within 5 mins I had a good solid bite and after a fair old scrap up came a nice conger, have to say I was delighted as I didn,t want a fecking dog to be the 1st fish of the new year, Sean then hooked into this nice we chap

Of course then the dogs came on and we had to haul shed loads of them up not easy in 320 feet.
Anyway I wasn,t particulary happy with r position and moved over to the far side of the bank and luckly this move paid of with a nice steady flow of Spurs attacking our baits
Nice spur.jpg.JPG

Sean even managed his 1st ever spur :D :D

With high water approaching and the dogs coming back on the feed hard and our arms aching from pulling 2 - 3lb lead up those mad depths we called it a day.
Nice few spurs made the day and a good stamp of huss.

Choppy? What I can see of the water in the background would qualify as flat calm over here. Fair play to you for venturing out into the chill, some very welcome fish - even the dogs :D

late teens touching 20 what, are you talking about inches here :?:

there is no way it's anywhere near late teens or 20 lbs.
very easy to guess a weight of any fish and very easy to guess wrong, thats why fisher men are called liars

I was Talkin to Davy mac who was also out he agrees it was a good Huss (think he described the captor as chunky  so dont be trying to judge the fish from the photo) I've photos of Davy with good fish and if you didn't know him you'd think he was spoofing about the weight, other than the fact that he's a big lad and makes them look small.

Nice session by the way lads, welcome to the deep water
If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

Just to clarify for John( the weights and measures so called expert) That the huss was indeed well into his teens. the angle in which Sean holding the fish doesn,t do him justice but u can see sean is over 18 stone and over 6 feet, he can,t even get his hand around the fish shoulder, anyway who care,s about the weight nice fish for this chap 1st huss. Boycie u right here we go :D :D it,s worse that the Dail Dot the I cross the T comes to mind
Ronald have to agree Davy is sound and full of very useful info on that part of the country.

There is no need to be like that gary, i have never claimed to be a so called expert in weights or measures, i was only going on the experience i have of catching a lot of double figure HUSS my best been 15lb still waiting on the hard to find 16lbder.
you are saying well into his teens earlier in the thread it said late teen's possibly 20
make up your mind what end of the scale your talking about, you might even consider getting a decent scales to put the fish on even weighing on a boat it will give a good idea what your looking at instead of guessing what it might be.
The other thing is if you post reports on here you should be prepared for some praise and some doubt.
I think we all get some negative feedback at some stage of our lives that can be a bit hard to accept, thats what makes places like this a bit more interesting

Hi John u got very defensive there but I didn,t mention anything about the weight in my report I just said he hooked into nice wee chap, Idon,t carry scales with me cause weight or size doesn,t bother me 1 bit, i agree with u about people,s opinion about reports like I said who cares what weight the fish was estimated at. I,d say u should deffo try that mark 4 your 16lb or even a20lb

i dont think i could see myself travel that far in winter for a few fish. the only things that i would have an intrest in is the BMD AND SKATE, i have the Huss and Spurs sorted out on my own Doorstep 8).
i was not trying to take anything away from sean. i agree it is a nice huss and congrats to you on your first of many huss

And many tight lines to you in 2010, might see you on the water
