I am wanting to buy/invest in a set of digital scales but I am not sure what type I should get and so here is where you come in – could anyone reccommend to me a good set of scales for me to buy.
I have been on the internet for a quick look and I have also had a look in some of my local tackle shops and what I have discovered in doing this is that there are so many different types available out there to buy that vary in both price and brand.
I would rather spend that little bit extra and get a good and reliable set that will last me for a few years rather than break down on me very five minutes.
If you know of a shop that is selling a good set or if you know of a good website that you could direct me to I would be very grateful.
It would be a real ‘weight’ of my mind!
Sorry, I couldn’t resist that!

Reuben Heaton 7000 series – great scales (have one of these myself for nearly 3 years)
Available from tackle ships dealing with Dennett’s N.I. RH 7000
Salter Electro Samson (great scales – the touchpad tends to pack up after a few years depending on treatment) Available in some tackle shops or on ebay. Salter
These are the upper end of the market but they will last and will be certified year in year out without difficulty.
I was speaking with the Legal Metrology people last time I got my RH certified. The guys there said that the biggest problem with scales is that they all will be perfect when new. It is on the next year when they are presented for certification that the problems occur. You are spot on for getting a decent set.

Thanks Jim for your help.
The scales that you have mentioned above both sound like the very thing I am looking for.
I meant to say that I would be wanting to get them certified and so it would be important that they are good quality ones and so the ones you have mentioned would fit the bill on that matter.
Can you advise me of where I could get this done - the certification of my scales once I buy them?

Cheers Kev for the advice. I must check out those ones you have mentioned. If you could let me know if the particular ones that you have sent for certification pass or not that would be great. Just pop me a PM or send me a reply back onto this thread. Thanks.

i have the berkley tech 35lb and so far its done me fine, have it less than a year tho and hasnt been used in a while
like jim said tho, i was also told by the guy doing the cert that year after year the salter electro samson passes. he reckoned they were the best on the market and worth the extra few bob.
You can get scales certifyied at the weights and measures department. Beside the Tescoes of the knockbreda. The guy who does the certification can recalibrate electro sampsons if they're running of slightl, though mine have been spot on for the last 5yrs. If you look after them they'll last for years.
A good set of scales are a must for correct weight of fish, guessing is far to inaccurate a method for weights as alot of fish are deceptive, looking bigger than they actually are.
If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.
Now seanie, I have had a look at both of the scales you have given me a link to above and I now have a question for you. You see the ones you have said you use, are they for the fish you catch? I think they would be better for weighing the size of that BIG HEAD of yours!
I am only kidding also incase I get deleted.

i had one problem with it, i got on to salter uk and they said it was a disposable scales and they would not fix it .

Thanks John for your help.

Thanks Ronald for the info. Do they charge much for doing this for you or is it free?
