which way do you prefer?

#1 Post by pete the plug »

Just been sorting out my lures etc. new split rings and hooks (crushed barbs of course) and putting 2 split rings on my seatrout lures,
hopefully that will stop them levering themselves off.
While I was doing this and thinking about last seasons sessions it occured to me that I had made no record of which way I was using
them, with or against the flow of the tide.
The area in which I fish is subject to an extremely fast tide flow.
Which way would use them and your reasons why.

Pete.

well its hard to know in relation to a specific area - but i would always start with going against the run of the flow

without knowing the layout of the ground underneath and the specifics of where the fish may be based you can try and catch their attention on the move in the water - hopefully as they are scouting around the are getting the best oxygen flow over their gills and then ready for action

i guess if your using a deep diving plug in very fast water it will dive much too fast

I do agree that without seeing the area I fish it is difficult to give an exact answer.
when wading certain parts any more than knee deep and you could be in serious trouble, other parts run slower and safe enough to go belly deep.
Like you said I also like to pull the lure into the tide run, espcially poppers. With the tide Idoubt even a greyhound could keep up.
All I was wondering , was there difference in catch rate in going with or against the tide.

from my limited experience definitely more hook ups against the tide - probably with the lure being in the water for longer like you were saying rather than the rush of going with the tide

of course when you havent an idea of the run and the channels - you would start cutting across the tide run etc. to see do you get any interest
