silverstrand, galway 30/1/10

#1 Post by chrisfeeney30 »

People:myself and kaylem f

Duration: few hours

Tide:dropping...very low

Weather:calm, dry

Bait:mack/squid

Rigs:flappers and clipped downs

Results:kaylem- 1 whiting, 1 coalie
myself: 6 coalies

Report: Decided to give the beach a go as i hadnt fished it in a while..got to the beach knowing the tide was dropping. we both cast out about 30 yards. No fish 1st cast..decided to try a 6 yard cast, tip started to bounce witha double shot of coalies on the end. Not a bad start! I got another fish next cast. We noticed the tide was dropping very fast and it was out slight further then usual. Kaylem got a small whiting to start his tally. The tide kept going out, passed the usual low water mark. There is actually a change in sand after this mark..grain size/colour is compleatly differant, never seen it before. The tide kept dropping and dropping untill it was about 200 yards past the usual lw mark.
We both managed to pull out a coalie from the extreamly shallow water. Then i decided to wade out and put a 3 hook clipped down into some slightly "deeper" water for my last cast. Worked well, got a double shot of coalies on my last cast.

There's been good tides over the past few days which are perfect if you want to collect some razors and if you know a place where you can get some. They are a brilliant bait. :D
