Wexford/Waterford 21/1/10

People:me

Duration:4hrs am and 3 hrs pm

Tide:see report

b]Weather[/b]:nice calm bright day

Bait:fresh lug and frozen peeler

Rigs:1 hook clipped pennell, 2 hook flapper

Results:flounder, silver eel, coalfish

Report:Left the house at 4am to get to Waterford for first light at about 8. Fished in the river for 2 hours either side of high water at 10ish. Nothing on the big lug/peeler bait all day. Plenty of small flounder up to about 8 inches and a silver eel on the flapper. Packed up and drove over to Wexford to try my second planned mark at Rostonstown. The previous day had been very wet and windy with a SE gale. Probably explains the lack of cod in the river but i had hoped it might bring something in to the beach. What i didn't expect was the enormous waves still crashing in. Second time i have tried this beach and found it just about unfishable on both occassions. I couldn't hold bottom and after an hour i decided to try and find another mark to get set up to fish into darkness. Ended up on Ballytrent strand fishing by about 4pm. First cast a nice flounder then as darkness fell the coalfish arrived. Gave it another hour or so but nothing else showed. Packed up at about 7 and headed home. Enjoyable day and got to look at a couple of likely spots.
Nothing really worth photographing.
