The sukuma is a softer leader than the suffix so give you knots a good test. I found the knots to open when put under stress. I now use The Trilene Knot http://www.animatedknots.com/trilene/in ... dknots.com on the rig clip and the Alberto knot ( Albright) http://www.stripersonline.com/Pages/Art ... knot.shtml to attach the shock leader to the main line
Specimen Fish 2024: Shore Rockling (3) 36cm, 34cm, 31cm; Thick Lipped Mullet (2) 58cm, 57cm; Smooth Hound (1) 109cm; Sting Ray (1)125cm; Ballan Wrasse (1) 48cm ; Corkwing Wrasse (1) 24.8cm. Golden Grey Mullet (2) 43cm, 1.8lb; 40.6cm, 1.55lb;

Anybody using tapered leaders? I've had a few break-offs with them (on braid main line) and am beginning to wonder....

I use Daiwa Tournament tapered (orange) on all my 7hts, ive never had any issues with it.
But im using it with Daiwa Tournament 15lb mono.
Is it breaking at the leader knot?
Danny.

Yeah. But the knot is OK and I double up the braid to avoid it cutting. Seems to be the mono. Maybe I'll try your brand of leader. Using Veals own at the mo.

Sure give it a lash and see what you think of it.
As I said ive had no issues with it, Barry and Pat are using it too with no hassle.

Re: Wat SHOCK LEADER DO YOU USE ?????
I had been using the sakuma tapered leaders and to be honest i think theyre useless .... i have been using sakuma 60 lbs leader the last few weeks and i have had no probs so far .. I was just looking to see was there one that stands out from the rest but there seems to be a good few decent ones to choose from judging by the posts
Thanks . That all-bright knot is the business Donal thanks

Re: Wat SHOCK LEADER DO YOU USE ?????
The all-bright knot is fine on clean ground, but i would not use it over rough ground or any where it might get a bit of pressure i fiend its not up to the job.
Shockleader would have to be Ultima powerflex on multi, and i use 35lb Zebco clear line for fixed spool, its the job and comes in 300m spools

That knot , the alberto version, has never let me down it was always the sukuma line that let me down.
I use it to attach briad to my shock-leader

Re: Wat SHOCK LEADER DO YOU USE ?????
Thats pretty much my experience, I've used a variety of knots and they all held, it was always the mono that gave. I thought first the braid was cutting it, but now I suspect its just the stress spike at the junction between a non-stretch line and a stretch one. The leaders I've been using go from 17lb BS, so I've chopped a few feet back along the taper and that seems to help. So far. Dont get this problem when fishing all mono.

Re: Wat SHOCK LEADER DO YOU USE ?????
Another solution I'm trying out is to put an 80lb braid leader onto the 30lb braid mainline. Fraying and tangles might be problems but it seems to improve the cast
