Clones Strand

#1 Post by nick j »

Fished here on Sat night between 8-11pm. Bit wild, about force 6 from east / north east. High tide 8.45 pm.
Fished a pulley rig with crab in hope of a smoothound and a second rod closer in with rag and sandeel.
Had a mixed bag. Two pup smoothies, two dogs, two dabs a flounder and a rockling. Flats were undersize, about 25cm.

Haven't fished here before. Went down from the pub in Castletown and fished to the left of the stream close to the rocks. It seemed very shallow.
Is it all the same or do others fish right of the stream. Is LOW TIDE BEST?

Any advise appreciated.... Nick

Nick,

I fish here regularly in the summer and in exactly the spot you mention. I have to say that other than one day where I managed 3 bass I have not had anything other than what you have described. I'm far from being an expert though and I do know that the other side of the river about a mile up the beach there is a lot more angling activity but I don't know how to drive down to it.

Donal.
