OverHead Thump ??
Hi lads just looking for some advice on this overhead thump(for fishing not just casting a lead )...... At the moment i cannot pendulum cast and i am working on trying to get as much distance out of my overhead/Off the ground cast . I normally set up with my feet shoulder width apart, a 4-5ft drop depending in my rig and push out and let the lead sit ,left arm shoulder high and right arm down then let rip .....
Also would u's recommend the brighton cast ? Instead of pushing the weight out let it come back in under the rod and sit and then wack it out ?
Hope ya's can help .Thanks
John

thats the way benny from the ucc showed me ( lead on the ground between me and the rod tip ) when your ready get your head round, pick your spot and and pull down hard as you can with your left arm and let it rip. works well for me...
ps keep your left arm up high from your shoulder, and if you can get to one the casting meets they will keep you right, and give you sound advice, check and see if there is any in your area, i'm sure they will be happy to help you out..

Re: OverHead Thump ??
More than welcome to come along to a meet, good crack aswell as educational!
I assume your using a long fixed spool rod ( 15ft ish), if so I'd lenghten your drop to about half way down the rod.
Pick a spot up in the air above the horizon and aim for that, forget everything else. Arms out away from the body and punch up, like your using a big hammer to hit the sky!

Thanks for all the advide lads that has helped already as one of my main probs is releasing too late and killing the cast ..... so using a hammer to hit the sky actually puts it into prospective for me thanks kstaff

Re: OverHead Thump ??
With alot of the 3-peice contenintal rods of 15/16ft, they are not designed for power casting and this could be a costly mistake, what rod is it???
Also the Brighton cast puts a big load into the blank very quick this could also be a mistake if the rod cant handle it...
For some good advise check Tommy out in these OTG clips,,

If the affinity is a 3-piece id take it easy on it, i dont know much about the conoflex but id imagine it would be ok.

Ha no your right john i was investing in a DH but the shop i was buying it from actually sold it on me so i ended up with the affinity and im glad it worked out that way cause the penn is a nicer rod in my opinion

Re: OverHead Thump ??
hi john
just a little indicator on the ' pick a spot in the sky '
this spot should be more or less directly above where you would like your bait to land
it'll help alot
