ballyloughan 26th/28th and blackhead 1 jan

#1 Post by corbyeire »

People: myself ballyloughan and then nth clare blackhead

Duration: 3hr 3hrs and 5hrs

Tide: lw, hw and over high water

Weather: terrible on 28th rain driving wind freezing, fresh other 2 sessions

Bait: mack

Rigs: 3 hook flappers

Results: blank, 2 seagulls, piles of coalies and whiting

Report: not much really to report so throwing 3 sessions together

went to ballyloughan for the stephans day session - roads being bad stayed vvv local - bad day with heavy rain and driving wind - didnt realise how numb feet and hands were took me an hour to pack up - no crabs no nibbles completely dead

there was a bit of surf over the low water and into darkness thought i might get a rouge flat but nothing - so much for a stephans day tradition

the oppurtunity then arrived on the 28th for another go for i though 1.5 hours i had a lift and was asured of being collected promptly - but that didnt happen - just thought id try over hw but instead frooze for double the time - no bites or crabs - 2 swans came up looking for bread i assume - how bored were they???

the gulls had been eating the used baits etc. and eventually with the drop they could see the rig in the water - sure enough one got it and was hooke - another then saw the bait up on the other hook and took it aswell - great craick reeling the two of them in - bunch of walkers stopped to watch this spectacle as i unhooked them - eventually my lift came and i got to thaw

banging head then new years day and nthclare gave me a text - why not the cold air on the head my soothe the hangover - no bites in the light for 1.5 hours but as soon as the light faded - coalies and whiting on - no size

a porpoise came up only 20m from us which was class a seal appeared later also - was a beautiful night to be out - bay was dead calm eerie!

fair play Brian that's dedication probably to cold for anything to venture in to the shallows at ballylaughan still worth a crack though after what it threw up before ;-)

nice one on the seagulls corby :-)

had one in the autumn - it dived in and lifted a massive mack annd squid cocktail bait - then took off, bait 4oz gripper an all - the reeel was screamin whe he got the wind under his wings - musta took a 100 yds in seconds - if only i could get a fish to run like that :-)

Managed a nice sized cormorant from the low numbers there myself, along with countless tiny whiting and a small coalie a few weeks ago, nothing else showing.
The Truth is often stumbled upon by men, most of whom pick themselves up and hurry along as if nothing ever happened.
