Hi All,
I picked up a new rod over Christmas and it has coasters instead of a reel seat. I haven't used them before, and I've a quick question about their proper use.
Specifically, does the reel foot go between the two steel bands, or under them both and rest on the blank?
Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but I'd rather get it right than have the reel fly off when I cast.

It goes underneath resting on the blank you tighten the coasters to secure it in place you can position it high or low depending on yuor casting style.... FWIW

Cheers for that saltydog. On the off chance that you have some advice, do you reckon that it's worth mounting the reel low? I tried it when I got the rod (without actually casting) and it felt really weird; but that could be 'cos my casting is a fairly unsophisticated over head thump.
I got the rod as a pretty cool (and unexpected) present. It's a Conoflex Maverick 6, and I'd like to get the best out of it, though I reckon that might take better casting skills than mine . . . Any advice appreciated . . .

Dont know where your based but sportscast ireland events are a great way to learn to cast, the lads are very helpfull and patient

Reel position is a matter of personal preference so go with which ever way you feel comfortable. If you know any competent casters go for a casting session with them. Try casting with the reel in both positions and see which feels right for you. As bigsod said the lads in Sports Cast Ireland are the experts when it come to everything casting related. It would be well worth it to you in the long run to go to one of their meets.
