Shore angling near Belfast

#1 Post by scrob »

Hi guys just sitting in work here and wondering where would be a good spot to head tonight for a dip of the rods and also best place to get bait, leaving Belfast city centre about 4:30pm?

scrob- it depends on how far you want to travel. Larne angling supplies may have bait- 02828276634. You could give browns bay a trow. A report not that long ago said there was huss and doggies taken. Failing that you could try Bangor harbour which isnt too far from belfast.

Belfast Angling Centre in the west of the City if you need some bait. I would hit waterfoot pier tonight. Been some decent fish taken off it recently.

just back in from waterfoot pier. it's fishing well, but only once it had got dark. loads of fish about, up to 1lb 8ozs :). the pup is still there trying to pinch your fish. but he's a cute wee fella so it's hard to be annoyed with him :P :P . it put the myth to rest that a seal would scare all the fish away as i was still pulling them from almost under his nose :D :D :P :P

Yes lads, managed 3 wee codling and a tiny flounder for my efforts but caught the bloody seal about 3-4 times and once I thought he was properly hooked, took nearly 5 minutes getting my gear back !

But as Al says you still have to love the wee cretter... I hung about until 1:30am and he was still there! Couldn't be arsed packing up and heading to the beach so just sat tight.

No shortage of bites down there, just didn't connect with anything of size.

I seemed to miss most of the bites and get my bait stripped - any tips for more hookups?

Oh and cheers for the additional bait - all gone

never realized that was you man    nice to meet ya. i had the same problem with the bites, but just don't wind in too fast when you miss the hits. instead of striking the fish just lift into it and tighten the line. if you can't feel the fish on, just leave it where it is as the fish will follow the bait and give you another chance to hit into him again   . some of the one's we got where only hooked on the 3rd or 4th attempt
