Eating Doggies
Has anyone ever tried eating dogfish? I've always been curious to know what it's like, but never wanted to chance it myself.
A commercial fisherman once told me it tastes like crab when you boil it, but reckon he might have been taking the mick.
Any thoughts?

Re: Eating Doggies
Thanks for all the replies and comments lads. Between Hugh Fernley-whatever-his-name-is cooking gurnards and pouting and the recession, the doggies are starting to look appetising.
Knew a guy who used to swear by ray. He made me try it once –– it tasted like a used soap cake from a pub urinal. Talkes all sorts I suppose ....
Thanks for that Jimmy. I'll have at it and give you a shout if I get stuck. I remember a certain major hotel in Cobh used to buy congers as 'rock salmon' back in the day.jimmymellis wrote:[

Re: Eating Doggies
doggies are the best on the bbq with salt and pepper sticky goodness
just in preparing them you need the usual kitchen tools
1 hammer
1 tongs/ vice grips
1 nail
a sharp knife
piece of timber
cut the belly and fin s off
hammer nail through head and timber (do not hammer on work top especially if its granite )
make a slice at back of head cutiing skin get tongs grip skin and pull like a fecker it should come off in one go like a sock if the doggie is obligeing
chop head off

This is really useful––though when I saw references to vice grips and a hammer I though it was joke at first!taz wrote:doggies are the best on the bbq with salt and pepper sticky goodness
