Galway Bay mark 4/12/09

#1 Post by stevecrow74 »

People: MC and myself

Duration:6 - 10pm

Tide:falling

Weather:calm and cold

Bait:lug mack squid bluey

Rigs:various

Results: poor cod, coalfish, pollock, shore rockling and codling

Report: had arranged the trip to the venue as soon as band rehearsal was over.. change of boots and off we went..

arrived at the mark with the water high and a nice swell in the tide too... MC was the first off with a poorcod, his first for the year and it wasnt long before the second and third came in, i finally saved my blank with a poorcod, and then MC pulled out a small codling.. as the night progressed the water became calmer and the wind died to nothing... then i landed a nice sized codling of about 35cm.. but not to be out done MC soon landed a codling of about 40cm.. as the water became flat calm the fish went off the feed and bites were far and few between.. to try and pick up a few more fish i tried baits right under our feet and it wasnt long before coalies made an appearance.. then i managed a shore rockling.. the look of 'i want one of them' from MC was obvious so i filled him in on where and how to get one.. and soon enough he pulled out his PB shore rockling and a new species for the year..
MC was happy to get out fishin and was rather surprised on how quick the bites were coming in succession , he landed 18 fish in total.. (apparently the most he's had from the shore in quite a number of year) and i landed about 13 (wasnt bothered counting)..

will add pics later...
