Silverstrand, Galway 1/12/09

#1 Post by stevecrow74 »

People:nige saltydog, myself and gara

Duration: 5 - 9pm

Tide:falling

Weather:wind with bit of rain

Bait:mack sandeel squid

Rigs:various

Results: nige and salty can add their fish..
Gara: 5 coalfish, 1 5bearded rockling
Me: 9 coalfish, 2 5bearded rockling and a flounder

Report:
a send off session as its last time nige will be fishing with us, A:) as an unmarried man and B:) cos he's moving to the states..
arrived to meet salty dog setting up, and with the waves breaking onto the carpark... quick change into waterproofs annd nige then arrived as we were setting up rods..
salty was the first to cast followed by gara then myself and eventually nige...

gara was first off with a coalie and i was soon to follow with a nice flounder, salty managed to catch the rocks and wanted to wait for the tide to drop so he could collect the fish that was supposedly on the end of the rig..
i soon had a double coalie and gara had another coalie.. i think the fish were liking our baits.. (or should i say nige's mackerel) after a few more colies for us two salty hooked into a coalie that was in need of glasses by one of its eyes..
the tide began to drop so onto the beach we went.. more coalies appeared and managed to get a 5 bearded rockling, species no3 for me .. think salty caught another coalie, and then towards the end of the session gara managed to get a 5bearded rockling... and on my last cast i got a double of coalie and a fairly large 5B rockling.. it was more like the size of a good shore rockling than a 5B rockling...

good wee session and think gara is now truly hooked with the fishing... now to get him to go after ray and bass..

First time fishing with Gara and he showed he's more than capable 8) he's well and truly hooked which is just as well as sadly we're losing one of our own nige for the foreseeable... It was a typical Silverstrand session for when myself and nige fish the venue, cold windy and waves crashing into the car park all it was missing was snow... Steve did well with a nice flounder and the biggest 5 bearded i've seen to date... i just managed a couple of coalies the weed made a bite detection near impossible but it was good to be out again (5th session in 7 days for me  ) nige will be sorely missed around the place for his hard work behind the scenes with Galway Bay SAC and for promoting the sport around the County and Province. All the best with the move nige thanks for all your support over the last year at club level... we'll keep your seat free for whenever you return  :D

mmm was wondering where my mack went to :) Well done to gara with first fish and more fish than salty and myself defo one to watch out for.

Thanks for that conor and I will be moving back as herself wants to live over here. I just got to put up with fresh water fishing and ICE fishing for a few years.

MC make that 2 pints :P and as for conors rigs mmmmm better make your own :)

I finished up with one coalie and about a tonne of weed :(
