Mate- I dont know your area at all. But can throw some light onto the pier and location problem. Some piers can produce great fish. If you look at any of Dan's posts about a place called the dee (a pier in Northern Ireland) the produce great amounts of fish. And some other piers are only worth fishing in Macky season. As a rule of thumb I would advise fishing on a peir as the often put you in deeperwater and tend t hold fish. Before writing off a mark- talk to the locals and fish it several times.
Beaches and breakwaters can be a complicated affair as each mark fishes differently at tide states. Some better at low water and some better at high. I have fished beaches for upards of six years and am still learning how to fish different marks. Try not to cast too far on beaches tho. A cast of about 50-70 yds should put you over some nice flatties.
Hope this helps

The south beach in greystones would be a good bet, whiting, coalies, codling and flats would be the main species you should hope to catch with lug tipped with mackeral a good all round bait. There is a tackle shop in Bray (viking tackle) where you can pick up bait their number is 01-2869215 might be an idea to ring ahead when your over here to book some lug.Rig wise a two or three hook flapper with size 1 or 2 hooks should do the job.Good luck hope the weather and fish are kind to you.
