Re: Bass rigs HELP!!
6/0-8/0 pennel pulleys with big baits have resulted in a good quantity of Bass for us recently over the past 3 weeks to 9lb all lip hooked. Fishing into big surf.
Between the 3 of us snood lenght varies greatly but doesnt effect our catch rate.
Danny.

Re: Bass rigs HELP!!
Depending on what baits you will be using, typically i use 4/0 pennels on a fixed paternoster with a big razor bait or 2 crab. For baits like lug a single 4/0 loaded with 2 or 3 juicy lug.If snaggy use a pulley set up.
Snood length will depend on how rough it is,normally 20 inches if moderate surf and not long casting, however if really rough i shorten to 12-15inches close to sinker, this also helps for me anyway as it eliminates tangles and can help stop getting slack lined as happens when using longer snoods from time to time resulting in positive hook ups.The general rule of thumb is keep it really simple and be patient, don't strike on the 1st bite wait for the rod to pull right down, generally after 2nd bite that is unless you get a slackliner on the 1st bite then reel like crazy until you feel weight,i hate these types of takes but great satisfaction in getting a hook up.
Don't forget a fillet of mackeral or squid can sort the bigger fish if your lucky and the third breaker rule is generally a good rule of thumb to follow.
Enjoy and good luck
