Re: Match angling 2010
How are things the best thing to do is just come along to a comp, the lads at the comp
will point you in the right direction in no time. I'd recommend coming to the RNLI comp on the 02//01/10
if possible it would be a great oppurtunity to get a feel for it.

Re: Match angling 2010
Can highly recommend the SAI/RNLI meet as mentioned by cormology.
I attended this year's, and it was the best possible way to get a feel for "comp" conditions.

Re: Match angling 2010
have all your rigs and bait organised before you leave the house
be at the venue at least an hour before the start time.. to get all your gear organised.. beach shelters set up. rods set up..
get all your bait sorted.. mackerel and squid cut and if like me put different baits into seperate cartons.
have two rigs of each.. one out in the surf and one getting baited up. that way your not losing time baited up the same rig.
The quickest way to learn is being at a comp. look out for there rigs and baits and see what they are catching on.
check out the sea angler website for various baits and how to present them onto a hook.
good luck!

Re: Match angling 2010
good stuff man thanks.
I take it that there is diffrent rules for each match and explained beforehand.
i.e no of rods bait restrictions hook sizes?
And would I be right in saying the points system is the same depending on the season?

Re: Match angling 2010
you are only allowed one rod with a maximum of 3 hooks with a minimum hook size of 4. Well size 4 in my club.. other clubs vary between size 6 and size 4.
Up north we round up ie... only fish over 20cm are eligible therefore they count as 21 points
so a coalfish of 32.2cm is 33 points
As far as im aware down your way the round down.. so a 20.6 cm flounder would be 20 (this can vary from club to club) points. again only fish over 20cm count.
to confuse the matter more lol. in some open competitions this limit is reduced to 18cm with all fish under 18cm counting as 5 points. its up to the club holding the open.
your club should have a rule book. if you check out the competitions section it should set up. On your first comp the fella marking your card will keep you right anyways. .

Re: Match angling 2010
Its handy enough once you get to a couple of matches. Just concentrate on catching fish and the rest will fall into place
