documentary: the end of the line. on tv tonight

just spotted it in the tv guide for tonight on more 4 channel. the "true stories" series has a 2 hour special on the end of the line docu film tonight at 10pm and repeated again at 12.55am channel 124 on freesat, channel 138 on sky and channel 145 on virgin media. and i would imagine you would be able to watch it after midnight on the internet, on channel four's on line site (just can't remember the name of it off hand at the moment)

the statistics are shocking. in the early 1990's a ban on commercial cod fishing was established in Newfoundland. but the tipping point had already been reached, and numbers have never recovered. in the med, bluefin tuna stocks have declined by 80% in 10 years (though it's not helping that commercial fishermen are ignoring the EU quotas that in themselves offer little help for recovery). half of all cod caught in the north atlantic are caught illegally.
at the rate we are going, by mid century there will be no significant stocks of large edible fish anywhere. this eye opening, eye catching film by Rupert Murray, based on the book by daily telegraph journalist Charles Clover, is an irrestible call to action for all of us (and not just to stop eating bluefin tuna). the rather overblown soundtrack aside, it's essential viewing.
