what lures and plastics to buy

Hi all. I have been fishing for just under a year now and have never givin lure fishing a go but seeing whats been caught on lures i want to try i am just woundering what lures/jellys to buy i will be fishing for bass and pollock and also where to go in county wexford and wicklow. pictures would be appreciated as i dont know any lure names

i could start naming all the lures mate but there is no end to it all i would say to you is buy top quality stuff tackle house, patchinko,rapala,tide minnow among others best of luck with it anyway mate

as above also try to cover different depths .........a surface plug, shallow swimmer , then something for the deeper water, someone on here will surely give you a mark to try out

Gives a fantastic account of the things you need to know as well as a list of some spinners and lures that you should start off with, and that are also available in most tackle shops (some of the ones named above are hard to find unless you have a credit card and shop over the internet, or have a contact. they are also very expensive - the ones named in Jim's list are more reasonable for starting out)

You'll find pictures of them too if you do a google search using the lure names, but like I said you will also find most of them in your local tackle shop.

No info on plastics/jellies in those articles but they are still a great place to start.

I would strongly recommend Xlayers as a great plastic, probably best combined with 12g lead heads. The first day I used them I caught 9 bass, prior to that I had only caught one bass on a lure this year:

They are lethal for pollock too - some evenings when trying to get a bass I have had to stop using them as I was getting a pollock on almost every cast.
They are not widely available in the tackle shops but Patrick Gallagher sells them - you can contact him from this site under the username of Padge73.

I would recommend the Asturie as a surface lure. I have been using Patchinko, Feed Shallows and Tide Minnows but the Asturie has well outfished them all.
