Bokofinn, there are different tactics for different marks. I always find Pollock are located around rough ground aka tackle loss heaven. We tend to make our own rigs for these marks- Rotten Bottom rigs (http://www.nesa.co.uk/rig-section/rotte ... m_rig.html). Make the weight out of whatever scrap metal you can find as 95% it desnt come back.... lol. We use old nuts steel bar- literaly anything. You can catch them off beaches however in my experiance these tend to remain small and in small numbers. If you are fishing clean ground a simple two hook flapper works well.

As for baits every one has their own preferences. I tend to find fresh rag tipped with mackeral works well or eitehr on their own also holds results. People will mention squid etc etc. These may work well but they are baits I have never used... probably the reason for my poor results!!! lol. If you cannot get your hands on baits spinners and lures often work well especially over rough gound- try different depths and retrieve speeds- trial and error.

I hope you can find some use in this. Anywho keep us posted- tight lines.

another tactic you could try is fishing over the rough ground with a float, just have a stop knot up the line so you can adjust the depth that you are fishing your bait at, try and get it so your bait is just above the kelp. have had great success with this when using sandeels as bait, best times seams to be at dusk...
as ole rab c said " see me' see the sea' i love the sea me"
right i'am off for a swally!!!!!!! so were's the F***'n purse!!!!!!!

try a sandeel on a 2/0 hook running behind a couple of split shot use this methot like a spinner it keeps it away from the rough ground and is a killer way to get big pollock

Both fishermannum1 and tightlines offer sound advise, I find float fishing rag worm or sandeel best. Just use a standard float, a 1oz lead followed by about 6ft of line, I use seaguar fluoro to a size 1/0, 1, or 2 Aberdeen hook. I dont go for the saying that bigger hook = bigger fish, I find that bigger hook = less hook ups. You will always hear people talking about catching a 3" poor cod with a 4/0 hook but they dont talk about the person beside them that landed 10 or 15 fish on smaller hooks and with the smaller hook you will also have a better chance of catching wrasse with the same method. Just cast out, allow the hook length with the worm to straighten out in the tide and retreive very slowly, faster if you use sandeel.
Thats my 2 cents worth anyway

You could also try free lining mack strips simply hook a strip of mack once and let it sink slowy & naturally killer tactic especially when the light is going  jellies and shads spun in along the rocks should produce good hits too :)
