Colimore Sunday 4th October & Fish ID (again!) please

#1 Post by beebub2 »

People: me & Stephen8wood

Duration: 8-10.30pm

Tide: rising

Weather: calm, full moon

Bait: Mack, Rag

Rigs:3 hook flappers

Results: Codling (6), Pollack (1), LSD (2), Rock Goby??? (1) Lobster, Prawns, Star Fish, Rockling (in net)

Report:

I too read the post about the full moon and thought I’d give it a go. I have to say, Colimore Harbour has been notoriously hit & miss since I’ve started fishing. More often miss than hit. Well Sunday night was different with plenty of fish. It was a lovely evening with the full moon breaking through the clouds over Dalkey Island.

I started on my own and had a couple of codling before Stephen arrived. I then got a nice sized Pollack for the shore. It was in really quite close and caught him on a small rod so the fight was a bit of fun.

Also caught what I think is a Rock Goby? Any help in IDing this fish please? Obviously he's in photo no. 3. One of these days I won’t need to ask this question anymore!

Stephen did nicely too with few codling and two dogs while I was there. I scarpered a bit before him and he then caught the lobster with his rod.

Big thanks to Cormdogg for the suggestion of the crayfish net. I bought on off t’internet and tried it out for the 1st time on Sunday. I’d say I had it in there for a total of an hour and I caught about 10 prawns. Also caught two slimy rockling, who aren’t the easiest creatures to get out of the net and back in the water. I used the mack heads as bait. I’ll certainly be trying it again.

I really good short session, with plenty of fish. Stephen if I left any out from when I was goen you can fill in details.

When’s the next full moon??

Hard to tell from the picture but I think its a 'Pogge' and they are quite common.

Looks more like a sea scorpian to me, but difficult to tell from that photo.

Defo doesnt look long/sleek enough to be a goby....maybe I'm wrong.

Attached a pic of a rock goby I got earlier this year
