Full moon, High tides

#1 Post by Wozza »

Are the conditions this weekend condusive for catching bass ?

or does it not make any difference, I heard somewhere about Lunar cycles etc and fish feeding more actively during a full moon as the high tides whip up more feed in the surf?

Old wives tale or do I stand a better chance of a Bass off a surf beach ?

hi warren, the solunar theory was created by john alder knight,he investigated factors that deterime fish activity,he narrowed it down to three main factors,sunrise/sunset. phase of the moon and tides. From wed 2nd oct to sun 6th oct,are the best days this weekend, sun is the full moon, but fishing any day during this window should produce fish, personally i would prefer sunday with high tide at 6.42 in the morning, sunrise, and 18.45 evening near sunset, the whole sulunar theory is included in brian kinsella's book "sea fishing ireland"handbook 2009.an excellent read.

personaly i dont buy into the whole lunar theory thing. i believe the tides, weather and time of year year are the most important factors to take into account. i fished realiable bass venues when the lunar theory predicted a bumper crop only to leave with very little for my efforts. likewise i fished the same venues on dud days according to the moon to land a fair share of the mighty bass. ???

Hi Eric must admit Im no tree hugger and dont generally believe in those things but magnetic pull of the moon, higher water, more disurbance in "The Force" bigger waves blah blah blah must influence things in some way

that man lives in waterford, which is one of the best bass spots in ireland, venues for rough weather, calm weather, plugging venues etc...... mayo however is fairly miss and miss, with the odd one here and there. they just seem to avoid that north west region for some strange reason. of course the odd pioneering bass stays up there  the moon controls the tides, so in my opinion the tides are more important
