LoL!
Was in the Centre of Belfast, walking down towards Odessy and what did I see? 2 Lads fishing! I swear, they were right below the weir, and to make matters worse, they were catching fish! Little whiting hand over fist! Watched them til a guy from the docks moved them along but it just goes to prove, not only are there fish up the Lagan, but there's plenty off them! Score! Now, lets get some fishing permission!

When I worked at clarendon cock across from the odyssey a few years back while having smoke breaks you could stand and watch the Mullet crusing up and down and some very good sized ones to it just shows you whats about.

mullet, codling, coalies, pollack, flounder, freshwater eels, sand smelt, herring fry,sand/commongobies,mackerel all available around the lagan weir
seatrout, salmon, browntrout, flounder, freshwater eels and mullet all available around stranmillis pool area.
To fish from the lagan weir in the city centre up to stranmillis weir all that is required is a game/rod license for the game fish, and a free permit is available from the lagan weir (control room is below the old visitors centre)

If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

This I didn't know! What are the opening hours at the weir Ronald? I may have to give this a go!

Re: LoL!
best time to get permit or info would be monday to friday between 09.30hrs and 16.00hrs, failing that drop me a pm with name and address details and I'll get the boss to post one out to ya.you can fish from the steps either side of the weir or from the quay sides down as far as the M3 bridge, after that it's belfast harbour you have to deal with and fishing a no no within the harbour estate area. dont forget it's a very public place so watch the casting.
