Where for flatfish?

#1 Post by scrob »

Just wondering if anyone knows any good flatfish areas in Donegal or near Belfast? There seems to be no shortage of small dab and plaice off most beaches but I am yet to connect with anything big enough for the plate! Is this a sign that the smaller fish congregate near the shore, or am I just looking in the wrong places?

FYI I normally take them on either lugworm or mackerel strip using a 2 hook flattie rig.

Scrob- Carnlough can throw up flatties from the promenade along the sea front. Failing that I think Browns bay can produce them as well. If you are willing to travel to donegal most of the atlantic sandy beaches will produce the goods. Flaties is an area where I dont have much knowledge.

I saw a lovely flouder of 42cm come off culdaff beach on wednesday night.

But you have to put this fish in perspective. You have to put in the time. The more you fish the better you'll get. you will blank and catch small fish but if you put in the time you will get rewarded.

From waterfoot to whiterocks, benone, portsterwart, portrush, roe valley, east strand, ballycastle, ballykelly, culdaff, ballyliffen, tullagh, leanan. you have loads of venues. get out there and fish them.

By the way the 42 swam away...........
Sinking Fast.
