Co. Down marks incl. Monster Mullet - 21st-23rd Sept

#1 Post by Dawsey »

People: Myself

Duration:?

Tide:All states

Weather: Very Mixed, raining one day bright the next.

Bait: Mack, lug, lures and bread

Rigs:Float

Results:Coali, Pollock, Ballen Wrasse, Corkwing Wrasee and Mullet

Report:

I had a few days off work, this week so thought I'd give a few local marks a go that I haven't tried in a while and another mark that was suggested to me by rab from the site(thanks mate).

Day1: Bangor Rock Mark and Dee:

Weather was awful, it was blowing a gale and the rain was depressing, however I wanted to try the mark that Rab put me onto. When I got down there the conditions were steadily getting worse, and to make things worse there was a lot of weed about. I stuck things out for about an hour, only managing a few small Pollock for my efforts, I only set the one rod up on the float so I didn't really give it a good go. Looks to be a great wee spot, one that I will be visiting again soon. I packed all my gear up with the intentions of heading into Bangor to kill a couple of hours before I had to pick herself up from work. When I got down the town the rain was now easing and winds were dying a bit so I thought I'd go give the Dee a rattle for an hour or so and I wasn't let down.

The Dee has been a bit off the boil this year and I have heard mixed reports, however having not fished it this summer I thought I'd give it a go. Floating a whole lug worm within 30seconds of the float being in the water I managed a nice coali over 2lbs, I was well pleased. Went quite for a while so made the drop from the float longer and hit into some wrasse which kept me entertained on the light gear. Managed a few micro pollock and another coali of about a pound. Was happy enough with the short session.

Day 2: I went on a mullet hunt, Haven't got as many as I would have liked this summer so we tried a few marks along the way, tried a spot where there are plenty of mullet, however the average size is not great and this is a known fact. But needless to say after a while I had the beast that I was waiting for   well lets just say that it was a perfect specimen of a micro mullet that did not have a blemish on him. But another mullet all the same

Day 3: Nothing much to report here, tried the mack rocks in Bangor to stock up on some bait for the winter, on float and lures with no joy, tried a mullet mark in the afternoon and again missed bites but no joy. All part of the fun.

Looks like a good spot mate, I think with the rain and wind I didn't give it as much of a go as I should have, i'll be down in the next week or so for another go for sure.

No wind up here, that fish provided great excitement, after trying to get the feckers to feed for soooo long!

 Thanks Dave was actually quite amusing seeing one that size, not a blemish on the wee fella :P , there are heaps of the small ones about, especially at that wee mark, leads me to believe that they are spawning in or around this area or do they come here for sanctuary, any thoughts???

Cheers Colin, beats those 5lber's any day  , I have had 3 sessions at them over the week tried a few different tactics but very hard to get them feeding, lots of flies about or something and they seem to be more interested in them, plus a lot of things floating on the surface, possibly hard for them to find the bread??

Cheers Tony, that's what I say, adds to the tally, we're getting there mate :P much more exciting than those tope

Cheers Dave, was a decent few days, and the wee mullet but a smile on my face, however I'd swap ya for one of those smoothies for the species list any day

Was down at the RDS playing rugby yesterday, passing a few of the marks Sod and Tony had given us for the smoothies, wishing I had brought the rod. But wouldn't have made a difference got feckin injured, pulled some tendon or rotator cuff or something so that's no casting for me for a while

I love the picture, it makes a nice change for norman (K2) to be taking one of someone else catching instead of the other way around

nice few days fishing dawsey :P sorry to hear about the injury thow :( :( no long range casting for you for a while then  . dad's back home and getting better by the day so we might get a wee session in over the weekend  drop me a text and let me know if you're up for it. i'll choose a venue where we can fish at our feet. no need for beachcasters, spinning rods should do the trick. and besides,,, if you hook into a big fella,,,,, i'm sure me or jordan can reel him in for ya

Alistair good to hear from you mate, glad to hear things are looking a bit brighter at home. Hmmm sounds good, I should be able to manage that, I don't think I have to worry about hitting into a monster with the way I have been fishing lately  i'll give ya a shout either tonight or 1st thing tomorrow to see if we can get things sorted.
