#1 Post by doggie3131 »

I dont add anyting to my bass rigs and find a two hook flapper with a good quality size 2 or 1s are the best unless your expecting a total monster :!: I use 2 ft long snoods on a one up one down rig.Happy bass hunting 8)

I dont tend to bling up my bass rigs, and most of the lads I fish with wouldnt bother either I reckon.

Maybe a bead/sequin and bead/stopknot to stop any worm baits flying up the snood if your casting any distance, but aside of that I really wouldnt bother.....maybe someone else may beg to differ :P

I'd say most of the battle is getting that bit of luck needed

But a good selection of really fresh bait will help your cause, and maybe a few different rigs.

I will use everything from pully pennels with 2 x 5/0s on, to 2 or 3 hook flappers with 3/0's, and if I was fishing 2 rods just for bass, I'd use 1 of each rigs, at different distances....this is soley from a beach :!: havent really fished for bass from rock marks.

If you think you are fishing a venue were bass may be feeding on small bait fish (ie mackerel, whiting etc), then it is possible to put a small hook above your main hook, the small hook is usually baiting with a strip of mackerel or whatever necessary bait, to entice a small bait fish to get hooked, the small bait fish is then left out there on your trace to act as a "live bait".

I've never tried this technique myself, but am told it does work.

A few other bass baits......

A bunch of small head-hooked rag can be deadly.

I've gutted a few bass that have had amongst other things in their stomach, shrimp, prawn, hardback crabs, sandeel, sand hoppers, chopped up mackerel carcasses that we had just "ground baited" with.....so I'd say they are scavengers as well as predators, just bear that in mind.

A big juicy lug tipped with a head-hooked rag.

I hope the above helps, and it will be great to hear how you got on, let us know what you tried and your results and thoughts

This time of year, try a single snood with a size 4/0 and put either a full squid, joey mack, or full large razor clam on ...fish at night and lob it out quite close in... a double fig bass has a big mouth!
If you have two rods, set the other up like the lads said....fish both
Check the big bait every 20/30 minutes

Keep it plain and simple I would use a pulley rig with a 3/0 hook some times use bait poppers if the fecking crabs are stripping the bait.

plain and simple. bass are humble fish they dont really need any specialist rigs, difficulty lies in finding the bass. nearly all my bass are caught on flappers size 1-2 hooks, take your time reeling them in and you should have any problems..

good bait and sharp hooks ,worms size 2 to 2/0, crab or razor 2/0 or 3/0 pennel

why not try a two hook clipped down rig with a 2 - 2/0 pennell good for two med size baits

shamoo only uses the best peelers   you can smell them a mile away

reckon a three hook flapper size 2's in clear mono is hard to beat if you just want to catch bass in general.
