Crew: me & Stephen8wood
Duration: 1-3.30pm
Tide: High and falling
Weather: nice
Bait: Rag
Rigs: Feathers, 3 hook flapper, flowing trace
Results: Whiting, Wrasse, pollack
Bulloch boat rental will be winding up for the season next week, so we were glad to get out before they pack up. It was a calm day and very mild. There seemed to be rain all around us but it stayed away thankfully.
It was pretty quiet up until the end. We tried feathers for macs but there were none around unfortunately.
I had a fairly sturdy boat rod and a small light telescopic rod on board. I was baiting the boat rod and turned around to see the other one bent in two and halfway in the water. Some scrap ensued given the size of the rod, but I managed to get my 1st ever wrasse on board. He was an ok size too. Stephen also caught a nice one.
I also caught a reasonably small pollack and a couple of pin whiting.
Just before heading home, the boat rod took a hefty knock and I struggled reeling it in. On the end of the line was a wrasse, much bigger than the two pictured. It wasn't like either of the other two, it had very distinct cirlces on its side. I got him right up to the edge of the boat but he was thrashing so much, he broke free! I was gutted, he was a big fella.
I'm happy that the last photo is a Ballan Wrasse, is the first also a Ballan? Any idea from the description what the thrid was?

Cheers.
Of course Stephen will likely (and justifiably) chip in to say 'I already told you they were both Ballen!'
