fixed reel, long distance casting

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

my friend is a novice angler and on our last fishing expedition he asked me to cast his lead, he is using a shimano stratic surf beach caster and a expensive enough shimano reel which is fixed spool. Cant remember the model but holy shizen i was casting the same distance with it as my expensive 13ft daiwa rod and mag elite multiplier it is an excellent set up.

yes it is possible to cast 150 yards with a fixed spool set up. multiplier only has advantage with wind behind and clipped down rigs(usually only a one hook). mags /breaking can then be backed off, giving it the edge and some shockin distances!!!
