Dublin water clarity this week?

#1 Post by MackDublin »

Anybody finding Dublin water like milk? I was out earlier this week bass fishing and the water was very cloudy, couldn't see the lure at all. Also a lot of weed debris in the water.
It completely cancelled out the good weather. I'm putting it down to the easterly wind.
Did anyone else exoerience the same?

Hi Colm

Water dirty since early this week north of Howth. This is caused by those north north easterly winds. South of howth Head in the redrock area is only slightly milky today and was quite fishable with lures.
forecast is for south south east tomorrow which will have a similar affect on water quality as north north easterlies for us on the east coast. The south east wind will defo hamper water quality on south side of howth as it blows directly on shore around dollymount and sutton and whips up the sand. Lets hope it doesnt blow south east too hard and for to long.

I see forecast is for a switch to north westerlies on sat evening. This is the wind we want to allow water quality to improve however sustained westerlies tends to push the fish offshore. It can be quite frustrating as we need wests to settle the water however wests send the fish offshore. We need souths or southeasts to bring on the fish but if it blows too strong it destroys water clarity.

Hope this helps you sleep tonight!

Great reply Lurefisher. How long does it take for water clarity to change when the wind direction has changed to a westerly? If it's due to change direction Saturday what are the chances of clearer water on Sunday? I was planning a session on fishing Sunday morning up to high tide sunday lunchtime. Am I doomed to casting plugs into milk???

Hi Colm
It usually takes 3/4 tides to see a decent improvement or fining down, however it can take less tides during a spring tide sequence with the bigger movement of water and clear water coming onshore from deeper spots.

was in portmarnock at 12 today and water is milky but fishable.I expect this fining down to continue over the next few tides. Sunday will be fine and fishing should be good but keep your brownies til tuesday or wednesday if you wanna get a biggie!

I'm looking at my tide table but I can't see anything that tells me Tues/Wed is particularly good in tide levels/ moon phases etc? Are you looking to the weather forecast when you mention those days as good prospects or do you reckon water clarity will only fully recover by then?

Hi Colm

Was out fishing today. water clarity is superb now. However the sea is flat and whispy with the westerlies and it is going to be difficult to catch fish over the next couple of days. Look at the weather and in particular the wind forecast for the next 3/4 days to identify good fishing opportunities.

Believe!

Hi LF
Got out this morning myself, water clarity had improved greatly over Monday. Looks like the fishing is back in shape, happy days.
