IMELDA:Greystones 13/9/09

#1 Post by Tony Fella »

Vessel:IMELDA

Crew:John1 & Tony

Duration:8 hours

Weather:fantastic

Bait: rag, mack, frozen&Live Crab, Razer

Rigs:Whatever we found on the floor

Results: Dogs, Wotings, Hounds, Bull Huss, Grey Gurnard & Fish ID?

Got a phone call of john last night asking if i was interested in joining him on a day on his boat only a fool would turn down an offer, launched at 10am and first on the list was bait tryed for a few macs in two spots but with no joy we had around 12 frozen macs so we made do with that.. as we waited for the animals we kept our self's busy with a few dogs john got a nice gurnard and a hound things were quite untill i heard a bang johns rod bounced and water splashed we didn't know what happend untill we seen a big lump of flesh floating on the water it came out of the sky  i looked up and around but didn't see anything or anybody (anybody hear of any exploding whales in japan?) Does anybody know what animal its off?? this thing weighed around 2lbs and bent an eye on johns eye anyway quick pic and sent it on its way, next on was john with a nice huss 9lb! Its the first time i seen one so big next was me with my first big huss it weighed in at 8lb..as we had no runs yet from a tope our mac supply was low we decided to have one more drop for the day, johns bait was only in the water 1min and his ratchet was screaming (Doesn't it sound nice 8) ) he striped 150 meters of braid in no time and it was nearly down to the backing after getting tangled on the anchor rope and a good fight he was close to being landed but he must of seen johns face  and let go its a pity would of liked seen his as never had the opportunity meeting one  all in all a great day

nice report tony i couldnt have put it together better myself, it was a nice and very unusual day
defo not any part of a seal iv been up close to seals before and they have fur/hair, this flesh didnt i still cant get my head around where it came from never mind what it came from.

if it was a fin it would of had 2 sides

not to bothered about the tope shane i would have been more dissapointed if tony had lost it, it was one of the best tope runs i can remember 150+ yards on first run 8) ah well better luck mext time

Good fishing and great report Tony, so you got out at last and a big well done on the new PB 8) :)
The peace of skin looks like blubber from a seal cadaver, might have been dropped by a sea bird, luckily it missed you, if it does that damage to the ring it could have easily knocked you out

Looks like whale or dolphin/shark skin to me with the two tones, a seal would have Fur/hair and a fin would have skin on both sides

[quote="concancook"]it looks like a bit of dolphin, did it hit your boat.

it did hit the boat at speed out of thin air and nothing in sight to explain where it came from thats what is so strange about the whole thing.
I was on to IWDG and they cant ID it as yet.

there were a lot of lacerations on it if you look closely you can see them.
