People: romofa, jw, eamonn, adrian, helmut and paul
Duration: 9-5
Tide: neaps
Weather: summer at last
Bait: mackerel
Rigs: shad, eels, devil rigs and flowing traces
Results: scad, mackerel, pollack, coalie, squid (tentacle only), cuckoo, red gurnard, whiting, pouting, ling, dogs and huss
Report: Fishing for pollack is like rolling a ball of string at a cat and hoping it will pounce, except you
don't usually fillet the cat and eat it for diner the next day. On our first drift over the reefs 5 miles west
of loop head fine pollack up to 8lbs were grabbing the lures every drop, the next time over the same ground
none of them would touch the lure, why is this?

The autumn shoals of scad and squid have started to show
up close to loop head, also
a lot of big baitballs with
associated sea bird activity out in the deep water.

nice fishing there lads, summer at last is well true
Maybe you have attracted a big predator on your first drift and the leftover Pollock didn't want to take any chances and went for a hiding? Was there any big fish visible on the sonar? Porbeagles sometimes hide directly under the hull, so they cannot be detected on the fishfinder, them cheeky bu**ers
