What affect does the weather have?

I was just thinking there about the above. I was fishing down at whitehead under the lighthouse and it was bad day in terms of weather. The wind was howling and i mean really howling in from the sea and the rain was belting.
The conditions aubviously have affect on the sea, the waves where coming in thick and fast, so strong that the rock i was standing on the waves came up to knee height.

I never caught a thing and lost alot of tackle and was wet and cold, mind you i didnt stop casting out rig after rig.
Just wondering what sort of effect does this have under the surface? Would it attract the fish in closer to feed and so on.

Whats your veiws on this type of weather with shore fishing on piers and rock marks.
Would love to hear, and learn from your experiences.

For a start u shouldn't be on a rock mark in weather like that. if u are fishing for bass cod or whiting rough sea is good but for anything els it's no good

Would echo what shane said, not safe to be fishing rock marks if the waves are coming up to your knee's

The weather can have a big impact on how good or productive your fishing is.
I have found that strong winds and rain can push fish down deep and puts them off feeding. In other instances it has brought the fishing on, you just don't know what way the fish are going to react to the weather.
The temperature of the water can also have a big effect on the fish as well.
Different seasons and weather means fishing for different species. I think we have a good variety of fish around the whole of Ireland, North & South to keep us occupied throughout the whole year.
The mullet for example come in when the water temperature rises (summer) and when it starts to get colder they disappear. Cod fishing is mainly carried out in the winter.
I think the weather effects us anglers more than the fish though, if it's bad we can't get out or access certain marks due to safety reasons and when it's good we are all out!

i find with some marks that the direction of the wind will make a big difference to the fishing,one mark i fished for conger was good in a south wind but the following day in a west wind i got no bites,i think its because of the way any food will wash along the shore

if it rains heavy some bays and Estuaries will be affected by the amount of fresh water washing in to them
