Hi all , I am new to the forum and iam just getting to grips with the site which I find quite impressive though I was disappointed looking through the young rods section to see so few posts , but anyway could anyone give me some advice on east cork marks ? I live in the area and have kept trying various marks but with little success , what type of fish should I be targeting ? I enjoy lure fishing for bass but have only had success in England on holiday . Any replies are much appreciated . Tight lines. 23bass23.

HI. I am based in West Cork, but have fished East Cork and Kerry as well. There is just so much excellent fishing in the Munster area that it is really hard to give advice on species and marks. There are sites on the net that will give you a general idea of what you can expect, but my advice to you is to restrict yourself to a few marks and get to know them inside out. What conditions they fish well in, what states of the tides, time of the day, phase of the moon, weather conditions, baits etc produce good fishing. If you do this you will find that you understand the marks and the fish and your catches will increase dramatically, you will develop a sense of where to go and how to fish it. I used to keep a log, found it invaluable, you could do it easily on the PC. Generally, the harder the conditions the better the fishing, so its always wise to take someone with you. Always use fresh baits if you can get them, look after your gear and use the best you can get. Learn to cast a long way, but if you use more than one rod then always drop one in close (Especially for Bass). Never be afraid to try something new, you will be amazed at what you will learn. (Eels on Cheese from sandwiches).

I have fished the South East English coast a lot, from Kent to Dorset, I used to live in East Sussex and there is MUCH better fishing here, believe me! Would be interested to know where you have been. Dungeness was my usual mark in the winter. The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy your fishing!

East Cork is where i fish all the time....
For lure fishing look for rocky weedy ground at low tide and fish it at full ..hour before and after for starters....
use shallow diving floating plugs... look at all the "bally..." several of them there!
Be carefull at big tides!
I always wear a float vest...just in case!
Keep a note of what you did for years to come...it does help!
