Sherkin Island

#1 Post by RockHunter »

Anybody fished the beach on Sherkin Island? I was thinking of giving it a try later next month.

Does it produce any bass?
What other species are common there?
What is the best stage of the tide to fish it for bass (assuming any bass there)?
What casting distance is best?
What bait is best?

What is lure fishing off the adjacent rocks like?

Please PM me if you wish.

Sherkin is off the SW tip of Cork, just off Baltimore. There is a nice beach there on the far side of the island.

Hi Rockhunter.
I asked a local fella in the jolly rodger one day...he said that they're not many spots but he said some fellas grab bass by sherkin point spinning....so i'd imagine they are around and theres lots of lugbeds there where they have the oyster beds down towards silver strand...you should definately try it...would love to know how you get on...tis a lovely place...great rock mark to the south side of horseshoe harbour...follow the path around and up and over the rocks...my buddy caught a red gurnard spinning there once :o
