IFSA rules governing minimum hook size

#1 Post by scara »

I've been searching the IFSA rules General, boat and shore in the diary and I can't find any rules governing the minimum hooks sizes allowed for both disciplines. Is there more rules some where else if so how do I get a copy?. I know it used to be a minimum size 4 has this changed? If the published rules don't state a size does that mean there is none?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks for the reply.

I must be mistaken from comp rules I've fished where they have a minimum hook size. I always believed they where imposed by the IFSA not the club. Looks like I've had it the wrong way.

The big problem with this one Scara is the hooks. A VMC size 4 is tiny comparer to an aberdeen.

In trout fishing they have a maximum size and it's detailed in measurements. Not sure if there is a minimum size in trout fishing comps, never fished that many.

Your not wrong there MAC, I bought a packet of Owner pint size 6, and a packet of Varivas semi circle size 6, and there is a world of difference size wise between the two sets of hooks!

hi scara, the opens that are run here in ulster generally use a minimum size 4 hook, as that is the minimum used in UPC competitions. its there from a conservation point of view.
each club can if they wish set there own rules for their own open competitions, as regards to minimum sizes, hook sizes, baits etc if you wish.
Not the BigPhil from Irish Angler mag, I'm the original, i swear!!!!
