Report:
got the night off from changing nappies so headed out to try for a few Bass and flatties. got to the beach around 2100 to find no surf but also no weed so it wasnt too bad. got set up with 2 rods with razor and rag on one trace and razor and crab on the other.
there was nothin happening for a good while. the crab was getting stripped but the others were untouched. at about 2300 i got a knock on the rod with the crab, lost it on the way in whatever it was and it took the crab with it
it went quiet again for a while till i got a savage knock while taking a slash and it was gone by time i got to it. probably a Bass as there was a good bit of slack line from it. at least it was looking better than an hour earlier. a few minutes later i got another savage looking bite and connected this time. i thought i was into a good fish as it was fighting like a mad thing. when i got it onto the beach i was surprised to find it only 55cms and 3lb 15oz. it fought a lot harder than some bigger ones ive had. got him back in to the water and he was gone with a good kick.
it was quiet again for a while and with bait running out i had 1 last cast with crab and razor. i got a few small knocks but couldnt connect with whatever it was. i left it out and eventually hooked into something. it felt small but very lively. i didnt have a clue what it was till it was beached, a tiny little strap conger
bait was gone at this stage except the rag which wasnt touched all night so packed up and left. not a great night but better than nothing and nice to be out. i was a little surprised not to get any flatties as i usually manage a few with worms on this beach.
