Having not much experience with these i used the method of casting out then, jerk th rod to make it splash then leave it for 5 seconds repeat this all the way in or reel down to the chug bug and reel quiclky a few times instead , my set up is 30 lb braid to 12 lb fluro leader and a quick clip. To read about lots of ideas on bass fishing read the book Hooked on Bass by Mike ladle, and some other guy great book :D :D

I had 18 fish on a surface popper last Friday, probably missed as many again. It's an extremely exciting visual way to fish.

I'm no way an expert, I hardly do enough of it. I just messed around till I found a rythm that seemed to work (being guided by Jim H helped also...). Cast it to the horizon, let the splash settle, then two quick cranks of the handle and pause, repeat repeat repeat as the lure skittered crossways in the tide. When it was as far downtide as it would go, I'd go 3 turns and longer pauses.

Worked for me.

It was Bass. I wasn't about to travel the length of the country, hire Jim H as a guide and then target a species like Pollock I can throw stones at up here in Donegal!

I was using an Alie Mag and a Storm Chug Bug.

Oh yes, the adrenaline is still fizzing in the bloodstream.........
