Greystones & Wicklow Beach-8 august

#1 Post by Al »

People:Myself and M.bthe international.3

Duration:Too long

Tide:wet

Weather:Overcast and a breezy southerly

Bait:rag,crab,mac and sandeel

Rigs:Flappers, 3 hook clipped and Loop rigs

Results:Tension headaches, Whiting  , Weaver, flounder, plaice, doggies, painted Ray and Starry smoothound

Report:

Myself and Mb3 decided to fish greystones before we hit our Wicklow mark, We both set up with 3 hook flappers in search of Flounder and maybe a rouge Plaice, My first cast resulted in a treble 2 whiting and a flounder, I knew we were gonna be in to some great fishing when i saw these rarities being brought in from the murky depths. I wasn't mistaken and the horrible bites from pin whiting appeared on everycast for the next hour and a half, I did manage another flounder and a doggie among the whiting so not too bad for a short session there, Mark was pretty much the same with whiting on everycast but he did manage a Plaice on his last cast, not huge but nice to see none the less, I think Mark took a pic on his phone which i'm sure he'll use for the species hunt

Hit our Wicklow mark about an hour before dark, Fishing was very slow with only our old friends the whiting making an appearence for the first few casts, Hopes of hitting and Smoothies or Ray were beginning to Fade then just as it got Dark i saw my rod hopping on the stand, reeled in and felt a something nodding away, started to come towards me so thought it got off until i caught up with it again this happened a few time and after a few minutes brought in a Starry Smoothie of around 5 lb :) Smoothie took a small Rag bait tipped with Mackeral and ignored the full crab bait i had on

Just as i bought in my Smoothie, Mark also reeled in a Ray. Happy days the two species we were after were caught and closer inspection of the Ray revealed it to be a painted Ray so even better :)
We joked that we could go home now after catching our target species and we probably should have, fishing went ver slow after that with the Moon lighting up the Sky and the Run decreasing significantly. A few more whiting, dogs and a weaver were to appear but that was it then and for the last hour we coudn't even get a whiting. I had one slackliner that pulled out my 7oz gripper, the snood on my loop rig had been bitten off... probably a small tope..but who knows. Decided to head home as it was so quiet which is unusual for this mark! Grand days fishing plenty of fish and species :)
