Dublin Fishing 07/08/2009

#1 Post by dfella25 »

People: Myself and Hank

Duration:9:30pm till 1:00am

Tide: Rising till 1:30am

Weather: Clear sky's, cool breeze and a massive full moon.

Bait: Lug

Rigs: Both using 2 hook flappers with size 1/0

Results: Me 3 Flounder and a Silver Eel. Hank blank

Report:Decided last minute to head out last night to a spot I've been really putting the hours into. Thought Cortaz's Moon Theory would bring me some luck there. :P

Stopped of to collect Hank and we headed off on a wild goose chase for lug. Tried three different spots but the takings were very slim. I was quite surprised as they have been good the last few months. I got lucky in the end, after digging for an hour or so hit a bed with a couple of nice worms. Got about 30 or so and decided that would do. I was knackered!

Got down to the mark and quickly made up a couple of rigs each. With all the Wicklow mini action and smoothie chasing the last while I had no big hook flappers done up. We set up as the tide moved in and used one rod each. Fishing was slow but I managed a few fish here for the first time so was happy with that. Missed one big knock about and hour in and was left to wonder what it could have been. A while later I reeled in and felt a massive dead weight on the line. Thought I was into a massive doggie or a whole kelp bed it was so heavy. As it got close in I could see weed but there was line attached to my weight. I had hooked a long trace with a 6oz weight on it. Seeing it's a recession I got the clippers out and cut off my bounty.

We ran out of bait at 1:00am so packed up and headed back to Hank's for grub. My species tally in Dublin now is 5 compared to zero last year.

Nice going dfella, great to break your duck at a mark.

Was the rig you dragged in a pennel pully by any chance, clear shockleader and orange line?

Could be 1 I lost last weekend

Eh maybe  Right so I have your weight, link clip, swivel and two yellow beads. There were no hooks but a clump of weed broke off as I lifted. Some weight on it could be a rotten fish?

What's the reward? Twix is good for me
