salmon skin as bait

anyone used salmon skin as a bait. got some from a local fishmonger and i'm curious to know if anybody has tried it. how did it work...any success ??

got some off my fishmonger last winter and only got loads of wee whiting on it. but that dose'nt say too much as they were attacking the bare hooks too :roll: :roll: :roll: :roll: . just give it a go but, as you just never know what might hit it until you try :wink: keep us posted on how you get on :)

Used it many times for whitting. Worked wonders.

It's really tough and will stay on the hook forever.

thanks for replies lads. will try it out pretty soon,seems very tough and may have its uses. surely it must be good for more than just dumb mini whiting. it's oily and smelly and may just be worth a try.

use the skin to wrap mackerel and sandeel in,make a sausage using bait elastic,might keep the crabs at bay 8)

well i've given it a good try out and yes folks caught...................nothing. tried a couple of marks around north kerry but then again there wasn't a whole pile happening with other baits either. haven't quite given up on it but ........... it must have it's uses i'm sure so i'll stick with it a little longer . :? :? :? :? :?

I know a friend who uses big bits of salmon fillets for porgies when the macks are scarce and it works a treat.

saw a waterford lad catch 2 good thornies on salmon up this way last year..

havnt tried it, i dont see why u should pick up macks and stuff in the summer on it, they love a bit off of a shine.
