Ballyglass lighthouse, Mayo 26 July 09

#1 Post by kieran »

People: Jason, Bruce myself

Duration: 3-4 hours

Tide: incoming, suppressed by heavy SW winds

Weather: not bad, no rain, cloudy and windy

Bait: limpet

Rigs: lures, 1 hook float and legers

Results: pollack best 1.5 lbs, wrasse best 3.5 lbs

Report: WARNING: the route around from the RIGHT of the lighthouse has fallen away and is impassable unless you are suicidal. Take the route to the LEFT as you are facing the lighthouse gates. Pretty poor days fishing, had a seal for company, even the gannets could not find fish. No mackerel, have not seen one in weeks! Still no cobwebs today!

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

This time last year, the macks were right inside Killala harbour which is just about landlocked. This year the only place they're being got over here is from the overhangs 150ft up on Downpatrick Head  . In this weather you'd want to be really desperate...
