Dun Laoighaire Harbour, East Pier, 24-07-09

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me

Duration:4-30pm-10pm

Tide:low

Weather:fine, them stormy, then fine again, spitting rain

Bait:rag, mack

Rigs:mini rigs, 2 hook flappers

Results: 6 x Goldsinney wrasse, 4 x corkwing wrasse,1 x ballen wrasse, numerous small codling and whiting and pollock.

Report:With advice from Eric and Dave from the site, i headed to the East pier in search in search of a goldsinney wrasse to add to the species list. Got parked handy enough, 2 euro an hour up till 7pm  , and set up at the bandstand in case it lashed down. I could see the bottom, with kelp ,rocks and seaweed visible. Sure enough , i got a goldsinney on my second cast which made my night   . A couple of lads were float fishing for macks further down and i saw a few landed, with one lad telling me he got 10. Lots of people about, tourists and locals, strange how people just take pics of you without asking and talk about you as if youre not there listening to their conversations(or maybe i just have a complex  ).At one stage the wind picked up and the skies darkened, and all the anglers came up to the bandstand for shelter,,,,,,,,but it didnt rain. It blowed over after about 10 mins, and the rest of the night was calm and mild. I tried float fishing , but no macks, just a few small pollock. One nasty incident was when a dog grabbed a mack that a guy had on the ground and wolfed it down. The dogs owner, a young girl, apologised, but the abuse she and the dog got was terrible. The dog didnt mind, but she was mortified  . The angler, can of cider in hand, let off a torrent of foul language and abuse at her, and kept roaring at her till she was well down the pier. I'd say he was on something else as well as the drink  . I know the dog should have been on his lead but there was no need for it , especially with kids and tourists about. They were left with a great impression of us anglers. Anyways I stayed till about 10pm catching more small fish , but nothing spectacular.

Good work on getting the target Goldsinney Dave. :D Its a great spot for catching lots of Wrasse on light gear unfortunately at this time out of year its full of louts and the rubbish they leave behind, it really gives us proper anglers a bad name. :(

Good session eyes. Nice looking fish. Pity about the behaviour of the mackie owner.
