Penn 525 mag falling apart

#1 Post by NeilusG »

I took out my 525 mags for tuning oiling etc the other night and noticed 3 out of four had cracks in the frame that went the whole way through meaning the reels are absolutley useless so I suggest I would have a good luck at your reels its a pity abu didnt make reels slightly bigger than the 6500 and smaller than the 7000 version.

So i dont think they are as strong as they make them out to be and I look after my reels well.

I might just send the 3 reels back to penn and see what they can do for me.

On closer inspection of my mags there appear to be what look like curved mould marks on both sides of the reel next to the reel seating and on the cross bar supports. you are not mistaking these as cracks are you?

No mistake as when you hold them up to the light you can see through the cracks actually one of them is so bad the part is actually free from the other part if you flex it they can be moved in the opposite direction.

Are the cracks curved in 2 places and straight and then a 45 degree angle? There are moulded joins on the casing. I'm sorry if it sounds patranising (wheres the spell check!!). I had a shock when I noticed mine
which are 1yr old and have been dropped several times on rocks. Cheers good luck.

In all fairness jolly jock I know the difference between a crack and markings from a mould as you can actually pull the plastic apart as the reel is useless just picture a ring of plastic that goes the whole way round in a circle then use both hands to pull them gently and the next thing the ring can be pulled apart exposing light etc the reel is cracked FULL STOP
