River Suir - Ballinakill Waterford

#1 Post by daven »

I am new to fishing, have bought a beachcaster. Want to fish around Ballinakill Waterford. What kind of fish can I hope to catch from April onwards?

never fished higher up the suir river than Cheekpoint. Went there last week, only caught flounders, no sign of codling or whiting like only a couple of weeks ago.

You will get flounder, Eels and Codling in that area. As you are new to fishing you should go to some of the competitions and see what goes on. You will find out all the other places to fish, Passage, Crooke, Woodstown, Dunmore etc. You don't have to join any of them if you wish. Look in the local papers and the TV for the dates and venues and you will be able to get lots of advice and tips free.

Lads, do you know how far up the Suir river is considered salt water, is it up to Rice Bridge. I mean how does that affect licences and species you catch

You can get Eel, Flounder and Codling above the Brige in Bilberry at times. Most people fish below the bridge and there has never been a problem with what is caught. Dont tempt faith by asking and plead ignorance if asked about licences.

Have been fishing here lately. Between about 4 -5 of us we have caught a good few codling ( some big ,some small ). Will they be here all summer or will they be leaving soon?
