Tigger II, Cork Harbour, 09/07/2009

#1 Post by thescotsman »

People: me, basslover, petekd

Duration: 19:00 - 23:00

Tide: HW 20:00 ??

Weather: calm, warm

Bait: mackerel, squid

Rigs: usual assortment

Results: macks, dogs, whiting, dabs, grey gurnard

Report:

Took another quick trip out, given that forecast not any good for the weekend. Brought out Kevin on his first boat trip to try to get him some new species. Wasn't a vintage harbour session. Found a big pile of mackerel off Roches point, filled up a box for food and bait and then headed back to the bank to try for some blondes. No such luck. Kevin managed a couple of dogs (his first ever) - one came to the boat just clamped onto the bait. Myself and Pete had a dog or two as well, and Pete fished a second small baited rod landing a few whiting, dabs and a couple of greys. Spent too long here, tried a drift or two, but the tide race was too much and we were up over 2 knots on the drift, Pete managing a solitary whiting, by spooling off most of his line. Getting dark so we headed in, tried a drop for a laugh in a place we would never normally try and ended up tangled together in a ball of weed.
Bit cramped with 3 in the Orkney and too long on the bank, we'll get him some more species next time....

Cheers for the run out Lee, you neglected to tell everyone about my daring baywatch exploits bravely rescuing a small boy from the jaws of death..... :D Probably the most exciting part on a quiet evening, small child had jumped off the pier at Ringaskiddy only for his buoyancy aid to come up over his head temporarily blinding the poor chap, that and the cold water turned him into a bawling wreck so it was a relatively simple matter of wading in and fishing the sorry soul out.... He wont do that again... Lifeguard duties werent done there as I had to piggyback Kevin from the Orkney onto dry land and save him from getting wet feet. Regular hero me.... :D

Quiet fishing but the Macks seem to have doubled in size in 2 weeks... :D
Fluff chucking is the new black..... Rampant Wreckfish is a fly angler in denial :D
