Which side of the country is best for Angling in your opinion and why?

the east is the best for me but thats only if u no were and when to fish

Depends on what species you are targetting. I have lived and fished on both East and West Coasts.
West best for Wrasse and Triggerfish, East for Tope, Smoothound.

east coast if you dont want to blank a lot - also a greater range of species available, region is far more fished so greater knowledge on whats possible - you tend to avoid hour long hikes, numerous falls to get to a so called great spot that is a tackle graveyard for a blank out west

humm..
east you have tope smuts bass and cod
west you have huss tope blues bass thornies (all year round), wrasse triggers, porgies.. and i'll stop there cos i could keep going..

teh only time i'd do a trip to the east coast is for smooth hounds and bass.. everything else i can get down the road

west and south west coast for Quality east coast for quantity,the guys on the east coast seem to catch more then the lads on the west coast but most of the record fish have been caught on the west and south west coast http://www.irish-trophy-fish.com/trophies/marrec.htm

well steve if your happy fishing the same 5 marks with a choice of flats sessions or dogs sessoins with a possibility of ray then so be it

i can count on one hand how many times i blank in the year out east - out west i start to forget after 30 :shock:

id like to add when i say west its clare galway mayo sligo and east is meath dublin wicklow and wexford

im sure the southern coast could be even better

Hey Shane,

I cant reply comment on the rest of Ireland because i have only ever stuck to the south (ill get a car and then ill be sorted

)

But i can say that its allot harder to catch fish in the last few years, maybe its just me...

True it is getting harder every for certain species

no point really, wont be doing enough fishing this year to justify the need... but off the top of my head i have about 17 species this year .. not bad for less than a dozen sessions

its not about fishing the same marks.. its been about fishing marks where i can access easily.. and having just had (as i'm sure everyone knows by now) surgery on my knee, fishing for me is out for a long time.. but i did finish up with a nice bass caught plugging on the west coast... something i have tried and failed at on the east coast :wink:

At one stage i would have discounted the east coast as being cack but over the last few years i guess i've changed my opinion, there are species over there which we either get infrequently or rarely if ever at all on the westcoast. The variety of beaches on the east coast is greater too, west coast surf beaches can be excellent but are generally low on diversity. Still on the west coast the rough ground fishing can be very impressive(i'm talking shore specifically) with stacks of wrasse and good pollock. The other thing about the west is that its still largely unexplored due to the prevalence of game fishing and the simple fact that bugger all people live there, there are great swathes of it that dont see rods except for lads fishing macs/pollock in the summer and as Corbyeire implied you'll have to wade through a lot of blanks at times.

most people fishing the west coast only fish the marks given on this site and the cfb site,only once i met another angler at a mark that was not on the maps or easy to access,most of the west coast is unexplored,i have had better luck at marks i discovered myself then the ones on the maps,a lot of my marks are hard to access but are worth it some times,its true what Corbyeire said you have a lot more blanks then success
of interest how many anglers on the site mainly fish the known marks and how many anglers try new marks as often as they can

hi lads
I dont make many posts but have to stick my oar in for this one all your points are very valid and the last one is very true .I have fished the west for the past twenty years and the marks given on this site ,that most people fish dont give a good account of how good and varied the fishing realy is .A lot of people seem to want to fish from the window of car most of the best spots dont have easy access if any , i do most of my fishing in mayo and north galway and they are two of the biggest coast lines in the country and very few shore anglers . Have fished all over so east or west ?........... East .. easier to catch fish
West .. has better fishing
