john desmond sunday times buying wild bass

#1 Post by barry murphy »

"of course, when we first set up the restaurant 20 years ago, my philosophy was to have a menu that relied as much as possible on local produce. And that’s still the case today. Obviously, being an island, we use a lot of fish, and I’m lucky because a couple of fishermen provide me with sea trout, pollock, mullet, bass, lobster and crab."

this was in an article the sunday times wrote by restaurant owner john desmond.the sale of wild bass is illegal and here we have a restaurant owner admitting to buying bass of local fisher men and not a blind bit of notice taken to it.what can be done who do we report this too?at the end of the day this man has openly admited to breaking the law

we all know local anglers and fishermen and poachers sell bass to restaurants and fish shops.the best and fastest way to stop of this is surely to stop the people buying the illegal fish.what is in place to police these restaruants and shops?????????

"And the most beautiful shrimp, too, which make a great starter."
interesting read, according to the CFB, the fishing for shrimp is banned at present?

"Attention salmon anglers:

Shrimp close season
S.I. No. 235 of 2006 Shrimp (Fisheries Management and Conservation), Regulations 2006

The effect of these Regulations is to provide for a closed season for shrimp fishing from 9 May 2006 to 1 August 2006. The closed season in subsequent years will be the period 1 May to 1 August. This applies too to anglers collecting shrimp for bait."

And this is funny how?
Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

The ' ' is becuase my previous post has been removed, because it was 'off topic'

All I was doing was laughing at how this story has lead to three seperate posts all created within one day.

This is the problem the Mods have when people put in "off topic" and "smart" replys some of the genuine posts get removed also.

"The illegal sale of Bass etc is serious because quite simply its against the law ,we all know its going on in places and thats why articles like this should always be highlighted to the relevant authorities so hopefully it will be responded to in the correct manner"

Interesting; they've removed the readers comments from that Times article. I suppose all the barking didn't suit the idyllic picture they were trying to portray ;)
