Report: Last day off work so i headed out to a rock mark thats been good to me in the past but which must remain nameless cos i caught a bass Got off to a great start with a tiny codling which is a new species for the year, so i didnt care what size it was, sad or what??. Weather was great and bites constant all day. The fish were small , but i'd rather be catching small stuff that feathering for macks who arent there. Had a battle with a small blenny who stripped my bait 5 times before i nabbed him. Got a thumper of a bite on the big rod baited with rag and reeled in a nice 30cm mack, much to the amazement of the mack bashers who were feathering all day with no macks .Got a flounder and a plaice??,,it had the bony nodules , let it be a plaice, please . Used the freshly caught mack as bait anfd on the last bit of it i cast out a 2 hook flapper a few yards and held it waiting to strike. Didnt feel a bite although i had the line in my finger but when i reeled in i connected with a bass which took off like a rocket. I must have struck just as he took the bait. I didnt think i'd land him as i was quite high up but i kept his head up and a wave took him onto a little ledge which gave me the opportunity to hand line him up. The oul heart was thumping i can tell you as i lifted him up to a round of applause from a group of onlookers. 45cms, i was well chuffed and went home happy as Larry

Thanks Cormdogg, Hooks were size 2 and size 4. The bass was actually caught on a size 4 . I gave a trace and some mack to a young guy who was waiting for his mate to arrive with bait. I was telling him that his own hook (yes he only had 1 hook ) was too big and that small hooks would catch small and big fish. He got 2 small fish on his first 2 casts, his first fish ever, then he saw me catch the bass on the small hooks so i guess he's converted

Davy
None Davy, i think i still havent got the knack of salting them, i cant keep them on the hook . Plenty of guys tell me the fish go mad for them though. Aguy in Wicklow Harbour had them threaded on and sprayed with wd40.
