Killiney Beach

Tried fishing killiney beach today , but with no luck . Just wondering wheteher there is a specific hot spot or anything on the beach ? I was using ragworm and fishing on the bottom , and would also look to know wheteher distance casting is needed here ? Another well none marks for bass are gladly accepted

hey Kevv, this beach can be a yeah or nay for so many reasons!
tide, day or night, season, bait, distance fishing, moon, weed,,,,
you gotta try a combination of all of these and still the next trip will
be different. try rising or dropping tides in close as well as distance.
a bit of mackeral on a second or third hook or tipped on the rag will
help.
i've blanked here and also had good results.
occasions of weed and tide breaking my line too!!!

this is my local, you have a lot of choice as regards to what you want to catch il divide it up into 4 marks to make it easy for you,

Mark 1- whiterock- easy enough to fish, a simple three hook flapper size 2 hooks will do you here, without doubt the number one bait is a small lug tipped off with a head hooked rag and a sliver of mack. this will take the bass, flounder and small turbot. at distance lies small gurnard, dogs, dabs, odd plaice, odd smoothie and odd ray. its probably my favourite mark on the stretch. the flats feed better at low water, try to fish 2 hours either side of low water, the bass and everything else will be taken over high water. if you truly want to target the silver vermin fish into the rocks to the right hand side off the entrance, crab, rag and lug on a running ledger will do, plugging and spinning is also an effective alternative.

Mark 2- tea rooms- a tough one on the tackle front, hight water only mark, after that it becomes a bloody nightmare. its rough ground, but holds some alrigh fish. wrasse, pollock, rockling and dogs will make up the majority of the catch this time of year, the odd bass and very occasional huss do make an appearence. a single hook flapper with a softish hook is spot on. rag, crab and mack will do the trick for bait. (they are old white houses up to the left of the car park), fishes well over daylight.


Mark 3- clean part of the beach, about 100 yards to the right of the car park, youl be fishing over shingle/sand basically you can pick up anything here, real mixed bag, but it not consisent. dogs,whiting,flounder and dabs will make up 90% of your catch. low water is better for picking up dogs, high water for everything else


Mark 4- shaganagh end, way down the right of the beach, the gorund becomes patchy again, its deadly for bass and plaice. the ground is basically sand dispearsed with rocks and kelp, plenty of crabs here to strip the bait, fish it over high water, with fresh crab and rag in the rough stuff. put the hours in though

The biggest tope i saw caught was got about 200 yards off the tearooms,from the boat .this was late sep .so they can be caught from the beach upto mid oct.
