South East Wexford, Sat 20 June

#1 Post by alby »

People:Eric, Dennis, Stevie (Thorniefish) & 3 mates, alan & jordan & me.

Duration: Saturday 8 am - Sunday 1 am

Tide:rising in day, ebbing at night

Weather:very pleasant sunshine

Bait:everything

Rigs:all kinds

Results:bass, flounders, dogs

Report:
Plans were hatched & after meticulous planning the lads came down on Saturday to fill their boots with bass & hounds.

Myself, Dennis & Eric got to our first mark early on Saturday morning and began fishing. We sent the co-ords onto Stevie but the lads had to make a few pitstops  on the way down!!

The fishing was promising to start with with me & Dennis both loosing bass before Eric got a little one. The tide was pushing us off the mark when the lads had arrived so we moved to mark no. 2, again the tide was rising fast so we had a couple of hours fishing an estuarine mark where we all had a few flounders, some good ones too 35cm +. At least there were a few hours during the day before the nightime bounty!

We took a break to grab food during the Lions match and refreshed headed back up the east coast to try for the hounds. We hit Tinnebearna, flat conditions & clear water, hopes were high of a few hounds. It soon became apparent though there were no flats in the gutter (very strange) & not too many Dogs at distance as all we had to show for about 12 rods was a dog for me & one for dbrock.

This was the case for the rest of the night and even when darkness arrived the lack of fish was astounding. We left at twelve, really dissapointed for the lads who had made all the effort to come down spent money on bait and enough supplies to keep an army going for a month.

Tip for the top Stevie - in future contact Danny M

ahh well man. i supose that's why it's called fishing and not catching     they were some great marks you showed us all the same. it's just a pity the fish had other ideas     . we fished it hard right through the night until almost 8am with thorniefish getting a couple of dogs and jordan getting a single flounder. there were a few lads who arrived around 3am and set up to the right and left of us so we thought things might pick up :P but by 7am they had all went home fishless :? :? :? but in saying that there were 2 trawlers cruising up and down the beach at dawn about a half mile off shore with the rigging out. so i'm guessing if that's a regular thing it might go towards the poor fishing     . a wee chinese man was fishing to our left from 3am and me and fra took a walk over for a chat and he told us he had 8 bass from there up to 3kilos only 2 nights ago. so i'm not sure what happened to our session :? :? but in saying that, your efforts to put us onto the fish were greatly appreciated    . it's just a pity the fish were'nt so kind to us

thanks again alby and the lads for all your help.

Just a pity the boyos didnt show. I will definitely be back to down to try for them again. amazing places and great to put a picture to the posts. Eric pulled out some stonking flounder which the fellas had for tea.
I think al is spot on about the trawlers having an affect on the fishing.
thanks again lads and hope to get down again sometime soon
